What You Need to Know: Useful Information
Tucked away in northern Lombardy just an hour outside of Milan, the rugged Brembana Valley (Val Brembana) feels like a world lost in time. Sculpted by the rushing waters of the Brembo River and framed by the dramatic, jagged peaks of the Orobie Alps, this valley is a paradise of deep pine forests, roaring streams, and high-altitude alpine meadows. While outdoor adventurers flock here for the world-class hiking and skiing, the valley’s true soul is found high above the tree line in its ancient alpeggi (mountain pastures). For centuries, local shepherds have practiced the seasonal migration of livestock, keeping a rich, pastoral cheese-making culture alive that you can not only witness, but completely immerse yourself in.

Getting There
By Car:
From Bergamo, take the SS470 highway heading north directly into the heart of the valley toward San Pellegrino Terme and Branzi (approx. 45 to 60 minutes). A car is highly recommended if you want to reach the remote trailheads that lead up to the high pastures.
By Train:
There is no direct train line running up into the valley. Take a regional train from Milano Centrale to the Bergamo Railway Station (approx. 50 minutes). From there, you will need to transfer to the bus terminal right outside.
By Bus:
The SAB / Arriva bus company operates frequent, reliable routes (Line B) from the Bergamo bus station up into main valley towns like Zogno, San Pellegrino Terme, and Piazza Brembana.
