What You Need to Know: Useful Information
Conero Park is situated along the Adriatic coast in the Marche region, between Ancona and Macerata. This natural park features stunning white cliffs, beautiful beaches, and abundant Mediterranean vegetation along its coastline. Monte Conero, the highest point on the Marche coast at 572 meters, provides stunning views of the sea and hills. Conero Park offers many hiking and mountain biking trails that lead you through lush forests, historic villages like Sirolo and Numana, and beautiful beaches such as Spiaggia di San Michele, Sassi Neri, and Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle, known for its twin white stacks rising from the clear sea. The bay of Portonovo, with its clear waters and white pebble beaches, is another destination much appreciated by nature lovers. An alternative but truly fascinating way to visit Conero Park is by boat. Departing from Numana, Sirolo, or Ancona, you can sail along the coast to see majestic cliffs, sea caves, and secluded coves accessible only by boat. Boat trips offer the opportunity to experience the park from a unique perspective, far from the crowds, enjoying the sound of the waves and the breathtaking view of the natural landscape.

Getting There
By train
While the protected beaches and cliffs cannot be reached directly by rail, you can take a regional or high-speed Frecciarossa train directly to Ancona railway station. From the station plaza, you can easily hop onto local connecting buses that run southward into the heart of the park.
By car
Driving gives you the complete freedom to navigate the panoramic coastal roads at your own pace. Take the A14 highway and exit at Ancona Sud / Osimo, then follow the incredibly scenic SP1 (Strada Provinciale del Conero) which winds directly through the hills, connecting Portonovo, Sirolo, and Numana.
By bus
For regional public transit travelers, Conerobus operates frequent daily routes (specifically the Linea RE1) that depart from central Ancona and run straight through the park, stopping at the main squares of both Sirolo and Numana.

What to Bring & Pro Tips
- Because exploring the coast from the water is highly popular, remember to book your boat trips in advance and ask if there is the option of having lunch or an aperitif on board, as many local operators offer this service.
- If you plan to tackle the hiking and mountain biking trails around Monte Conero, ensure you wear sturdy footwear with excellent grip, as the limestone paths down to the beaches can be quite steep and slick.
- Beaches like Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle and Portonovo are famous for their white pebble beaches, so packing a pair of rubber water shoes will make walking along the shoreline much more comfortable.
- Don't forget high-factor sunscreen and plenty of water, as the reflective white cliffs intensify the Mediterranean sun during the peak summer hours.
The “Hidden Gem”
Once you have sailed past the twin sea stacks and walked the beaches of Sirolo, leave the coastline for an hour to discover the enigmatic Camaldolese Hermitage of Monte Conero (Eremo di San Pietro).
Instead of looking at bustling beach resorts, this isolated 11th-century stone monastery sits tucked away near the very summit of Monte Conero, completely enveloped by dense holm oak forests. Originally built by Benedictine monks, the historic stone church and its quiet courtyard offer an incredible sense of absolute peace. Walking through the shaded woodland paths to reach this high-altitude retreat offers a wonderfully spiritual, cool break from the sun-drenched Adriatic beaches, rewarding travelers with a quiet look into the ancient monastic history that has shared this mountain with nature for a thousand years.
